Longtime reporter bids farewell to WTVY

By  |

DOTHAN, AL (WTVY) He’s been a trusted member of the WTVY News 4 team for decades.

Longtime WTVY/WRGX reporter Mike Gurspan is turning off the microphone after nearly 40 years in front of the camera.

Gurspan began his broadcasting career in Northwest Florida in the late 1970's. Gurspan’s career track first led him to WTVY in 1992. As the Bureau Chief for Coffee and Geneva counties, he’s covered his share of major news stories like the floods of 1994, the Enterprise tornado tragedy in 2007, and the Samson murders in 2009 just to name a few.

Gurspan’s nose for news may only be surpassed by his sports prowess on the football field. During his senior year at the University of Florida, Gurspan suited up for the Gators football team.

That love of the gridiron – along with his trademark saying - "rolllllll that fooooot-age!" - made Gurspan a natural fit on WTVY’s Friday Night Football show.

Here's a tribute to this Wiregrass icon simple known to many as Uncle Gurspy.
