(WTVY) -- One year ago today, the first Category 5 storm in the Atlantic since 2007 made its first landfall.

Hurricane Matthew hit Haiti on October 3rd, 2016.
The storm hit hardest there, killing over 500 and causing well over a billion dollars of damage.
The storm would later affect Jamaica, Puerto Rico, The Bahamas, and even parts of the Southeastern U.S., closing Kennedy Space Center, Disney World, and cancelling football games and races.
