DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) — The 16th annual Troy University Wiregrass Alumni golf tournament teed off Thursday.
The group awards scholarships to deserving high school seniors.
They say more need financial aid these days than ever before.
Around 150 players took to the green.
Ken Lambert, alumni president says,
"Even if it is a small portion, some of that money goes towards books or summer classes to help during the semester so it is important that we support not just Troy but those students."
Tim Shirley went to Troy. He says, "We are a very giving and caring community and so anything we can do to jumpstart our high school seniors, whether they go to a trade school or a four year school, it is critical."
The alumni chapter raised around $13,000 for scholarships this year.
