DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - City commissioners will allow New Year’s fireworks in downtown Dothan.
They are generally against the law in the city, however, a waiver was granted to the Dothan Downtown Redevelopment Authority Tuesday.
The DDRA is planning a Downtown Countdown New Year’s Eve celebration with fireworks at midnight.
"Hopefully we'll eliminate those folks who want to do their own fireworks at home,” said Battalion Chief Chris Etheredge. “Come downtown for a great celebration and enjoy some fireworks that are shot safely and protected by our fire and police who will be there throughout the night, just a good opportunity to eliminate problems through the city."
WTVY will televise the final half hour of downtown countdown on New Year's Eve beginning at 11:30 P.M.
