(AL.com) — A false tsunami warning was sent out to some residents along the East and Gulf Coast Tuesday morning.
A private company sent out the alert after a monthly test by the National Weather Service, NBC News reported.
The NWS responded quickly.
"There are currently NO tsunami warnings in effect for the Gulf Coast. If you received a tsunami warning from a 3rd party app this morning, it was in error," the National Weather Service Center in New Orleans said in a tweet.
It's unclear how many of the warning messages were sent.
The message was later retweeted by the NWS office in Mobile.
