Dothan, AL (WTVY) Dothan shook off a slow start, using intense defense to dominate Elba 72-28 in the first round of the Downtown Dothan Hoops Classic. With the win, Dothan advanced to play Enterprise in the second round on Tuesday.
The Tigers led just 7-4 after the first quarter before dominating the rest of the game. Dothan forced 32 Elba turnovers and used a balanced offensive attack to roll to the win.
Tyson Williams led Dothan with 16 points, while Tyrez Lindsey and Devin Taylor added 11 points each. Dothan dominated despite a quiet night from South Alabama signee Kevin Morris, who had just four points and six rebounds.
Jac'Quan Crawford led Elba with eight points.
Ashford - 54 Providence Christian - 39
Ashford jumped on Providence Christian early, then steadily pulled away for the 54-39 win at the Downtown Dothan Hoops Classic on Monday night. With the win, the Yellow Jackets advanced to face Daleville in the second round on Tuesday.
Ashford led 16-6 after the first quarter, using a mix of speed and athleticism to turn up the pressure on the Eagles. Ladarius Knight led a balanced Jackets attack with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Nyko Ivory added 11 points.
Manning Owens led all scorers with 17 points for the Eagles in the losing effort.
Enterprise - 64 Abbeville - 50
Monday's meeting between Enterprise and Abbeville at the Downtown Dothan Hoops Classic turned into the Ryan Littel show. The Wildcats big man exploded for 30 points, leading Enterprise to the 64-50 victory.
With the win, Enterprise advanced to face the winner of Dothan and Elba on Tuesday night.
Littel scored ain all phases against the Yellow Jackets, hitting 10-of-14 shots including 5-of-6 from 3-point range and 5-of-6 free throws. Marcus Jones chipped in 13 points and Cincere Flowers added 10.
Abbeville played well early, leading by as many as 14 and holding a 20-8 lead after the first quarter on the strength of it's full court press. But, Enterprise began breaking the press and Littel got several easy baskets, including a thunderous slam to help the Wildcats recover.
Enterprise outscored Abbeville 25-9 in the second quarter to head to the break with the lead. A strong fourth quarter put things away, as the Cats outscored the Jackets 17-9 to pull away.
Jordan Griffin had 16 points while Jermaine Curry added 14 points and 12 rebounds for Abbeville in the loss.
Daleville - 56 Wicksburg - 35
Daleville shook off a sluggish start to pull away from Wicksburg in the second half for a 56-35 win in the first round of the Downtown Dothan Hoops Classic. With the victory, Daleville advanced to play Ashford in the second round on Tuesday.
The Warhawks led by one point at halftime, but exploded after the break, outscoring the Panthers 33-13. Daleville did much of it's work on the glass, outrebounding Wicksburg 39-14 on the night.
Jaylyn Hinton scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Daleville. Kelvin Sheppard, Jr. added 11 points and Jonathan Myhand chipped in 10.
Dustin Bryan led Wicksburg with 16 points.
