Dothan Police Department prepares women for the worst

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - The Dothan Police Department is making sure women are prepared for the worst.

Wallace Community College and the Dothan Police Department teamed up to offer a course called R.A.D. - rape aggression defense.

The three day class teaches women how to defend themselves if they are attacked or put in a dangerous situation.

Today, it was a classroom session on existing dangers and how to be aware of your surroundings.

The next two days will focus on physical responses for various levels of confrontation.

"Statistically, one in three women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime, so, one in three, just take a look around,” said Corporal Susie Peters of the Dothan Police Department. “There's going to be something anywhere, so anyone can benefit from this."

There will be a four day course offered in July. If you'd like to sign up, visit Dothan.org.
