COLUMBIA, Ala. (WTVY) — The town of Columbia is having issues with their police department.
Shad Floyd, the suspended Police Chief of Columbia, AL.
At a special called meeting Thursday night, the council voted to suspend current chief, Shad Floyd without pay.
He has been on leave with pay since September, 9th.
Mayor Rhonda Freeman would not say why he was on leave but she did say they want to hire Columbia’s only other police officer, Phillip Killingsworth, as the new chief of police.
Floyd has ten days to ask for a hearing to discuss why he should be able to keep his job.
Mayor Freeman says, "He is doing all the work of police chief, Mr. Killingsworth is, and until we can hire him officially, that's what he will do. I am working to get him some part time help but until we can do something, that's it."
If Floyd doesn’t request a hearing, then he is fired.
We did speak to him but he didn’t want to comment.
