Dothan (WTVY)-- There are 23 applicants for the position of Dothan City Schools Superintendent, the new board chairman announced Thursday. “We’ll whittle down the number to five finalists and make those names public,” Mike Schmitz said.
However, he also speculated that the application window that closed September 30 could reopen. Schmitz expects that to be discussed at next week’s school board meeting. He favors the extension.
“Right now we’re under a November 28 state mandated deadline to fill the position but that would need to be extended if we’re going to accept additional applications.”
Schmitz, who took office this week after serving as Dothan mayor, said some current applications are from local people but wasn’t sure of the number.
The position has been open since Dr. Chuck Ledbetter resigned in May to take a similar post in Pike Road, Alabama.
