(WTVY) Joining me is Dr. Jared Atkinson and Scott Griffith to tell you more about a brand-new therapy will benefit cancer patients here in the Wiregrass which is so very important. Dr. Atkinson, Scott, thanks for being here. Thank you for having us. We have a new technology called true beam. Tell us about this exciting new thing for patients in our area. We're excited to have this new technology. It gives us so many more opportunities to treat different cancers.
The different energies and things that it has and the pinpoint accuracy allows us to really target prostate cancers, things like breast cancers, head and neck cancers and lung cancer very precisely. Wonderful. There are some specific steps to it. Let's talk about how it will directly affect these patients. The new true beam accelerator has many new technological features.
Several tumors move in the body and it's important to accurately image them before you treat. So you make sure the treatment you're giving is hitting the right target. The new true beam accelerator has the most advanced imaging platform available now. It lets us take a very detailed x-ray or a CT scan on the patient before they are treated to make sure they are aligned in the appropriate position. With radiation oncology, it's important to make sure the dose you're delivering is going where it's supposed to go and it's also tightly conforming to the target.
