(AL.com) — Alabamians have one more thing to be thankful for this year, as they are living in the state with the lowest gas prices in the nation this Thanksgiving Day.
The average price of a gallon of gas in Alabama as of Thanksgiving 2017 is less than $2.24, according to AAA. That's a far cry from the more than $3.26 people will pay per gallon on average at the pumps in Alaska this Turkey Day.
The Southeast is currently home to most of the cheapest average gas prices in the nation, with Mississippians and South Carolinians each paying less than $2.26 per gallon. Overall, the national average price for a gallon of gas this Thanksgiving is $2.521, down from $2.562 a week ago.
Thanksgiving is the year's busiest travel day, and with many families facing long drives to be with loved ones, every cent at the gas pump adds up.
