Alabama, Auburn fans show their school spirit at Rivalry Tailgate Party

DOTHAN, AL (WTVY) It is a rivalry that runs deep, but Thursday night those sporting the orange and blue and crimson and white were all on the same team.

“I wanted to enjoy some time with our Auburn and Alabama and Troy friends,” said Auburn fan Carla Barnett.

The Wiregrass Boys & Girls Club held its fifth annual Rivalry Tailgate Party at Windmill Station in Dothan. The fundraiser helps cover the cost of the Club’s afterschool and summer programs.

Club Director Phillip Gilley says their goal is to raise about $40,000.

“If we have kids, we’ve got to have eyes on kids, so that’s our biggest expense is labor, so that will go towards that,” said Gilley.

For a $150 donation, fans at the tailgate party enjoyed food, music, a silent auction, and the main event – a chance to win an Alabama or Auburn-themed golf cart.

"Who doesn’t like a golf cart,” said Gilley.

Better yet, fans got to show their school pride, and also leave knowing they’ve helped an organization impact the lives of children in a positive way.

The Wiregrass Boys & Girls Club is responsible for offering after school and summer programming for more than 600 area youth.
