AL Senator Richard Shelby heads Russian delegation

(WTVY) A group of U.S. Senators, headed by Alabama Senator Richard Shelby, met today with members of Russia's Upper House of Parliament.
The delegation included Republican U.S. Senators from 6 other states.
They sat down for a face-to-face meeting with Russia's Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs to discuss U.S.-Russian relations.
The meeting took place 2 weeks before President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are scheduled to hold a summit meeting in Finland.
Senator Shelby expressed hope for better relations between the two countries:
"I believe Russia and the United States and the whole world will be a lot better off if we improve our relationship."
Relations between Russia and the U.S. have sunk to their lowest point since the Cold War as a result of the Ukrainian crisis, the war in Syria and alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
