A monster: Old Man Winter tightens grip to begin New Year

Undated (WTVY)-- After several days of cool temperatures, Alabama and the Wiregrass are headed to the deep freeze and parts of the state could see wintry precipitation.

Lows will be in the 20’s most of the week with highs only in the 40’s. That’s in south Alabama. North and central parts of the state will see lows in the teens.

New Year weekend travelers could also experience sleet and freezing, mainly in west central and southwest Alabama. Accumulations will likely be no more than a tenth of an inch. The Wiregrass has only a chance of rain Sunday before temperatures plummet.

Readings are predicted to return to more seasonable levels by next weekend.
