Wal-Mart will soon have shelf-scanning robots roaming the aisles in 50 of its stores.

The robots go up and down the aisles, scanning for out-of-stock items, incorrect prices and wrong or missing labels.

Wal-Mart says the new technology uses automation to handle tasks that are repeatable, predictable and manual.

And that frees up time for its associates to spend more time on serving its customers.

Walmart has already tested the technology in a small number of stores in Arkansas, Pennsylvania and California.
