Teenager in custody after homicide investigation in Jackson County

COTTONDALE, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) -- A teenager is in custody after a homicide investigation in Jackson County, Fla.

The names of the victim and suspect have not been released.

Deputies stay they got the call at around 3:43 p.m. Monday after family members heard a gunshot off Pate Drive in Cottondale. Deputies say an elderly person is dead and a 17-year-old white male is in custody.

Family members gave deputies a description of the suspect and the white vehicle he was driving.

Officials say deputies found the getaway vehicle at Bethlehem Baptist Church on Kynesville Road. They say the suspect called and turned himself in.

The suspect was taken to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office for questioning.
