Shanghai, China (CCTV) - People may have heard and read about the Pig in George Orwell's Animal Farm, but they may still be curious enough to want to take a peek inside another animal farm, where pigs race, jump into water and swim. Just like in a triathlon.
These piglets you see here are unlike Orwell's thoughtful Pig, they do their voluntary exercises just for the incentives in the form of cabbage leaves laid out at the end of their runway and swimming lane.
"The pigs we see here look very energetic, unlike elsewhere where pigs usually look idle and lazy. These pigs look very healthy. This is really an unheard-of novelty," says one visitor surnamed Li.
These pigs are not trained to be athletic. They already act that way. What farm runners have done is just to try various ways to better their skills in the race, in the jump start and in the water.
"Kids are found to like this part of farm very much, so we've come up with this activity to allow close contact between kids and animals, for kids to see pigs doing exercises," explains Wu Lianqiang, owner of the farm in China's Shanghai.
