Weigh-in Week: January 22-26 8am-11am and 1pm to 4pm

Dale Medical Center will be serving as a weigh-in site for the state’s largest weight-loss and exercise program, Scale Back Alabama. In its 12th year, the program has resulted in 1.35 million pounds lost and the continued establishment of healthy lifestyles. The 2018 contest starts next week.

Adults in teams of two can go online to scalebackalabama.com/join to register for the free, 9-week program and then go to Room 105, Dale Medical Center, Holly Hima, RN to weigh in at the following times 8-11am and 1-4pm Jan. 22 - 26. All participants must be 18 years of age and older, live or work in Alabama and must weigh-in at an official site to be eligible to participate. Those who lose at least 10 pounds will be included in a drawing for cash prizes on April 17.

Today is the chance to change yourself for the better...just do it! At Dale Medical Center we know the importance of good health and also realize that our community could use some healthy tips and encouragement. People working to lose weight are more successful with support and encouragement, and Scale Back Alabama offers a fun way to team up with another individual to get healthy.

The Alabama Master Gardener program is a volunteer training program available through the Alabama Extension System. The program provides opportunities for individuals to become involved in their community and enables Extension to expand their outreach.

The Extension System offers a course that meets once a week for 12 weeks. The class will cover a variety of topics including turfgrass, landscape design, backyard fruit and vegetables.

In addition to learning more about gardening, one may discover hidden talents or hobbies such as grafting fruit trees or composting. As a Master Gardener, there are a variety of programs to become involved including Aunt Katie’s Community Garden, the Dothan Area Botanical Gardens, and Landmark Park. There are also opportunities to share your knowledge with youth and adults through classes and workshops.
