Mrs. Mary Grace Whatley Tharpe, age 85, of Skipperville, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at her home.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A. M. Friday, January 17, 2014, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Roger Stone officiating. Interment will follow in Peniel Baptist Church Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M.
Mrs. Tharpe was born April 8, 1928 in Dale County to the late Charlie Jewel Whatley and Eunice Ruth Searcy Whatley. She worked with Phillip Van Heusen until her retirement. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oren Bryan Tharpe in 1996.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Lonnie Blankenship of Skipperville;
two sons and daughters-in-law, Bryan and Debbie Tharpe of Ozark, John and Dianne Tharpe of Skipperville;
two sisters, Martha Ruth Kelley of Grady, AL, and Betty Sue Kelley of LaPine, AL;
one brother, Charles Hubert Whatley of Jack, AL;
seven grandchildren, Michael Tharpe, Christopher Tharpe, Jonathan Tharpe, Johnny Blankenship, Melanie Hartzog, Jason Blankenship, and Ashley Blankenship;
five great grandchildren, Sequoia Tharpe, Jasper Tharpe, Violet Tharpe, Jacob Tharpe, and David Tharpe.
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
