Gregory Allen Johnston of Dothan passed away at SEAMC in CCU on Wednesday, December 25, 2013. He was 41.
There will be a non-traditional memorial service held at Westgate Church of Christ on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 2:00 pm. This will be a celebration of Greg’s life. At a later date we will have a private graveside burial of his final remains in the Garden of Chimes. In the meantime, family and friends will spread his ashes in the many places he loved and wanted to visit. Greg, also known as “Kodiak” and “Cletus” to many, was born March 27, 1972 in Marion, Alabama. He was a 1992 graduate of Dothan High School and 1994 graduate of Wallace College in Welding. He was a member of Westgate Church of Christ; a union member of Local #52 Plumbers and Steamfitters of Montgomery, AL; a Boy Scout committee member of Headland BSA Troop 123 and an Arrow-man of the Cowikee Lodge 224 Order of the Arrow. To have known our “Gentle Giant” was to love him. Greg touched and impacted so many lives, young and old alike. Many stories of his love, loyalty, and mischievous sense of humor will continue through the generations to come. This is his legacy.
Mr. Johnston was survived by his beloved wife of 15 years, Traci DeShawn Butler Johnston. His mother Linda and husband Aaron Gordon, Cowarts; father and mother in law Benny and Joannie Butler, Headland; two sisters: Stacy and husband Steve Kuta, Dothan; Kelly and husband Josh Ebarb, Dothan. Sister in law Tawnya and husband Frank Kirkland, Headland; brother in law Kevin Butler and wife Cara Leone, New London, NH; three step-sisters Sandra Hall, Lisa and Lindy Adkins; one step-brother David Gordon; two nieces Haley Mills, Wetumpka and Elizabeth Kirkland, Headland; four nephews: Keygan and Jase Ebarb, Dothan; Dilan and Shelby Kirkland, Headland; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; last but not least, his K9 son Tobi. He is preceded in death by his father Alfard Allen Johnston, maternal grandparents Wesley Dean William, Sr. and Betty Ann Boggan Williams, paternal grandparents Jenny and James Morgan Johnston, Sr., and step-brother Daron Gordon.
