James Madison Smith, a resident of Dothan, died Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Flowers Hospital. He was 76.
Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held at 2 PM Sunday, September 22, 2013 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage with Reverends Ricky Plummer and Travis Free officiating. Entombment will follow at Memory Hill cemetery with Southern Heritage directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 PM until 8 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith was born March 22, 1937 in Geneva County to the late Howard Nathaniel Smith and Ruth Odell Ezell Smith. He retired from Warner’s Textile after 30 years of service as a truck driver. Mr. Smith enjoyed fishing and gardening and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Mr. Smith is preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Eugene Smith and Gerald Parker Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Smith; four daughters and their spouses, Brenda and Jim Tyson, Betty and Steve Collins, Janie Smith and Harold Phillips, Amy and Tracy Reeder; grandchildren, Matt and Misty Tyson, Kyle and Ashley Tyson, Justin Collins, Zeth Collins, Chase Reeder, Wade Reeder and Landon Max Reeder; six sisters, Opal Whitehead, Mary Helms, Barbara Wilcox, Bonnie Proctor, Carolyn Hathaway, Elaine Hoffman; two brothers, Harold Smith, Robert “Pee Wee” Smith; his special boy, Bevis and a special friend, Richard McKeehan.
Serving as pallbearers will be; Matthew Tyson, Kyle Tyson, Justin Collins, Zeth Collins, Jerry Smith and David Fugate.
Honorary pallbearers will be; Travis Birge, Glen Marsh, Tim Reeves, Ricky Enfinger, Terry Everette, Chase Reeder, Wade Reeder and Landon Reeder.
