Mrs. Mary Ida Stubbs Napier, age 89, of Ozark, passed away at her residence Monday, April 15, 2013 after an extended illness.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, April 17, at 10 a.m. at Post Oak Baptist Church Cemetery with Hospice Chaplain Charles Goldsmith officiating and Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be held immediately after the service in the church fellowship hall. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Memorial Fund of Post Oak Baptist Church, 4108 North Union Avenue, Ozark, AL 36360.
Mary Ida Stubbs was born September 20, 1923 in Dale County, the elder of two children born to Stephen Coleman Stubbs and Lessie Blackman Stubbs. She attended schools in Dale County and graduated from the former Dale County High School in Ozark in 1943.
Mrs. Napier was employed at Barkett’s Stores in Ozark, the Book Store at Fort Rucker, and Dowling’s Department Store in Ozark, until retirement in 1988. Prior to her illness, Mrs. Napier was an active member of Post Oak Baptist Church and the Dale County Gideon’s Auxiliary.
Mrs. Napier was predeceased by her father, S.C. Stubbs in 1961; her mother, Lessie B. Stubbs in 1994; one brother, Benny Stubbs in 2013; and her husband of 66 years, Sam Napier in 2009.
She is survived by two sons: Wayne Napier of Lake Eufaula and Steve Napier of Ozark; three sisters-in-law: Mrs. Florene Stubbs of Ozark, Mrs. Ruth Bagwell of Livingston, and Mrs. Merle Napier of Opelika; a special friend and caregiver, Ms. Dawna Jones of Ozark; several nieces and nephews.
