Washington County is Looking to Upgrade Tourism

Washington County, Florida, is looking to attract more tourists.

The county has applied for a $25,000 grant from the Florida office of economic opportunity. They'll use it to expand tourism along the U.S. 90 corridor. They're partnering with Jackson County to raise awareness of the area's history.

"What we hope to do is tie all of our history sites, our historic downtowns and all of our history themed festivals and special events together and package it in a way you know families can go down the corridor and explore the history of these small towns," said Heather Lopez, the director of Washington County's Tourist Development Council.

If they get the grant Washington County will hire a consultant to write a strategic plan focusing on U.S. 90's assets.
