School Superintendents of Alabama (SSA) the professional association for school superintendents and their system leaders, recently announced the winners of the Champion for Children Award.
This award is presented to public officials who have demonstrated unwavering support for children for their positive image in doing so.
SSA is proud to recognize Sen. Harri Anne Smith, Rep. Steve Clouse and Donny Bynum, Superintendent Dale County Schools, for their role in supporting the school system and the community during the recent tragedy in Midland City which caused the death of Charles “Chuck” Poland.
Alabamians across the state took comfort in the genuine compassion and support demonstrated by these individuals.
“Sen. Smith and Rep. Clause have always been strong advocates for education and we are proud to recognized them for their kind and compassionate efforts in the harrowing days leading up to the rescue of this young man served as an inspiration to many,” said Dr. Eric Mackey, Executive Director, School Superintendents of Alabama.
Sen. Smith and Rep. Clouse will be presented with their awards on Tuesday, July 23 at 10:30 a.m. at the Dale County Board of Education in Ozark. Bynum was recognized at the SSA Summer Conference in June and received a standing ovation from the audience.
