The Dothan-Houston County Rotary Club will once again help make some residents Christmas in the Wiregrass Community a little brighter. For over eight (8) years the Dothan-Houston County Rotary Club membership has provided Christmas food boxes for 150 families in need in the Wiregrass area.
“It is our pleasure for our Rotary Club to again this year be providing food boxes to needy families in our community”, states Rotary Club President Susan Wilkins. “Our Club members will get together this Friday afternoon to stuff boxes full of food to be delivered to needy families in our area this Saturday morning.”
“Our Rotary Club’s motto is “Service above Self” and what better way to demonstrate this motto than our club members working together to provide some much needed food for families in our area.”
Rotary Club member and coordinator of the Club’s Christmas Food Box project, Beth Kenward, agrees with Wilkins...“It is such a blessing for our Rotary Club to be able to give back to our local community, especially during the Christmas Holiday Season.” “The food boxes donated will consist of stuffing, cranberry sauce, green beans, corn bread mix and other traditional holiday meal items, including a pre-cooked spiral ham.” “We hope this traditional family meal will help make someone’s Christmas much brighter and let them know that someone out there does care about them.”
Rotary Club members will meet at the Boys and Girls Club in Dothan (located at 457 Alice Street) from 3p.m. until 5 p.m. Friday, December the 13th to prepare and stuff the food boxes. These food boxes will then be delivered by Rotary Club members to the 150 families selected on Saturday morning, December the 14th from 7:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Members of the Media are welcome to accompany Rotary Club members delivering the Christmas Food Boxes on Saturday morning.
According to Kenward, the Dothan Rescue Mission works with the Rotary Club to help select 150 families to receive the food boxes. “In order to make certain the Christmas food boxes we donate are going to those in our Wiregrass Community that need it most, we work closely with the wonderful folks at the Dothan Rescue Mission to help our club select these families.”
“I am so proud of our Club members that volunteer their time and resources to help with such worthwhile missions like this Christmas Food Box project,” stated Wilkins. “To know our Club’s efforts of providing these food boxes will help encourage and brighten the day of these families is very heartwarming to me personally and I know, very gratifying to our club.” “It is a true pleasure to be able to serve alongside so many wonderful people in our club that has such a spirit of giving back to our community.” Wilkins added.
Wilkins stressed the important work Rotary is doing for the Wiregrass Community. “Our Rotary Club is mission minded and our members are dedicated to giving back to the community.” She also stated, “We would love to have as many of our media friends come by the Boys and Girls Club either this Friday or Saturday to witness first-hand the great work our club is doing in our great Wiregrass community.”
