Pecans are a prime ingredient in holiday baking.
But this year, there's a shortage in the popular Georgia export.
So if you couple the increased demand for pecan cookies and pecan pie, with the decreased supply, it means bad news for consumers.
Market researchers say shoppers should expect to pay a dollar a pound more for pecans this year than last.
“We're not seeing people coming in with large amounts of pecans. Ordinarily we have all the crackers running back there...that kind of thing and this year that's just not the case. I think the weather the heat all that had an effect on it, said Sandi Hodge, retail manager at Shute Pecan Company.
To put it into perspective, Georgia’s pecan supply will only be about 65 million pounds this year, according to the Atlanta Journal.
That’s only about half of what's produced during a strong year.
