(Dothan, AL)--A man is behind bars after trying to break into a home on Pontiac Avenue.

According to the Dothan Police Department, 30-year-old Curtis Lee Melton was arrested after neighborhood community watch members took down his description.

“In this case, they were very helpful in helping us catch this man because they’ve had training to give accurate descriptions,” Sargent Rachel David said. “We train them to notice anything suspicious and to call us when they do,” she said.

The Dothan Police Department heads up neighborhood watch programs around the city to reduce crime.

“We have noticed in the areas where these watch programs are in place, crime goes down,” David said.

There are more than 30 neighborhood watch programs around Dothan. Police encourage everyone to get involved.
