DOTHAN-- You might not know it, but many people in the Wiregrass go hungry everyday.

This is Janice. She's a part of our community, but few know about her tough situation.

"I inherited, overnight, seven grand kids and one great-grand. And as a single grandmother, I had no idea what I was going to do...I guess they was gonna drink water and eat a cracker if I had any left."

Janice's daughter abandoned her children and left them with janice without notice.
Now Janice lives in a two -bedroom one-bathroom house with eight hungry mouths to feed.
But living hope ministries helped her in her time of need.

"It's been hard, because I wake up like many mornings and don't have nothing for the children to eat. But I call Michelle on the phone and she says come in and I'll feed you all."

Michelle is the coordinator for the living hope community center and a hurricane katrina evacuee. She got into the ministry because she says she knows what it's like to be in need.

"We actually help people who are below the poverty level or who are homeless and we help them with their basic needs, food and clothing."

"And in the year that they've been open, Living Hope has helped hundreds of people just like Janice."

"Something that's really close to my heart especially, is the homeless situation here in Dothan. And I think a lot of people aren't even aware of how bad the homeless situation is. We see homeless people everyday."

"They're one of the most powerful people that have helped us through. I thank so very much to Hope Ministries."
