TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee says policies count more than religion in electing a president.
At the Republican National Convention, the unsuccessful 2008 presidential candidate said he's sometimes asked if he could only vote for a fellow evangelical. But Huckabee noted that the "only self-professed evangelical" on either ticket is President Barack Obama.
Mitt Romney is Mormon and both Paul Ryan and Vice President Joe Biden are Catholics.
But Huckabee said Obama wants to "change the definition of marriage," supports abortion rights and would compel employers to provide birth control even if it violates their faith.
Huckabee said he cares less about where Mitt Romney goes to church than where he'll lead the country.
