A Dothan man is hoping to raise $250,000 to build a permanent skate park in Westgate Park as a memorial to his son, Jennings, a skating enthusiast who was killed in a car wreck two years ago. The Dothan Eagle reports that Berry Wardlaw has permission from the city to construct the concrete ramps where skaters can perform their tricks. But city officials told Wardlaw he must come up with the money to build it. Wardlaw has constructed a temporary Jennings Skate Park until the new park can be built.
Skating legend Jamie Thomas, a Dothan native who owns skateboard apparel company Black Box Distribution, is helping with the design of the proposed park and with finding affordable prices for the construction.
