(DOTHAN, AL.)- The Wiregrass Area’s fourth Annual Bread of Life Award has been presented to Leslie Blumberg. The award, sponsored by Higgins Electric, honors recipients based on exemplifying the spirit of community service by making an outstanding contribution to the community via time, resources and talents and serving as a role model for others in the community while inspiring others to engage in volunteerism.
Blumberg, a Rotarian for 51 years, attended Marion Military Institute and the New York University of Retailing. He has served on several boards including the Dothan Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Boy’s Club, Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce and AmSouth Bank. In addition he is a Paul Harris Fellow plus one and a member of Temple Emanu-El. Leslie is happily married to his wife, Susan Blumberg and enjoys hunting and traveling.
Blumberg was recognized with a bronzed plaque that includes his name and previous recipients. The plaque sits on display at the Wiregrass Area United Way Food Bank.
The Bread of Life award was created in memory of Frank Martin Jr. and Tommy Ricketts, two outstanding citizens of the Wiregrass. Each year Higgins Electric also donates to the Food Bank in the recipient’s name.
"This year’s recipient fits that mold. Leslie Blumberg has been serving this community while not expecting any recognition. A good man doing the right thing to help his fellow citizens,” said David Hanks, president of the Food Bank.
Gary Granger, a member of the Higgins Electric team added, “It is a special honor to be able to contribute to such a worthy cause each year and we are proud to be a part of it.”
