The 39th Annual Piney Woods Arts Festival kicked off at Enterprise Community College. It is a chance for artists to showcase their talents and help the community as well.

“It's good exposure. You meet a lot of people from different areas,” said Dianne Register from Fishpots pottery.

Vendors come from all over—some as far as Minnesota. Every piece of artwork is hand-made.

“Everything is hand made. All the antique pieces I buy around the area in antique stores, and new-fashion them into beautiful necklaces or bracelets,” explained Courtney Meinders of Freedom Birds Jewelry.

The festival displayed a wide array of items. Chair members said it has been successful because of the hard-working volunteers.

Festival Chairman, David Deal said, “It is very successful because a lot of people had a lot of time invested in it and they enjoy doing it.”

Enterprise High School’s Junior Civitan Club provided kid-friendly activities, but they decided to distinguish this year from the others. They renamed their section the Franco Family Fun Center in memory of 13-year old Brendon Franco, who lost his battle with cancer in September 2012.

“It has been really heartening. They see the little things here and there that say the Franco name or Brendon’s name that they will just pull out $20 and say I know it's going to his foundation, his cause, so here you go here's a donation,” stated Crystal Krausz, a club sponsor.

All of their proceeds go towards research for childhood cancer awareness. It’s a small community, with a big heart—raising money one festival at a time. If you would like to participate next year, contact the Coffee County Arts Alliance.
