Oregon Legislature Opens with Hindu Prayer

SALEM, Ore. (AP) - The Oregon Legislature is getting a dose of
Hinduism this week.

Rajan Zed, president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, opened Wednesday's state Senate session with a lengthy prayer in English and Sanskrit, concluding with the word "Om."

There was no reaction from anyone in the Senate chamber.

The Hindu chaplain is to pray again today before the Oregon House starts its session.

Zed says he'll also deliver invocations next month for the Colorado and Indiana Legislatures.
