Obama Restates His Commitment to Abortion Rights

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama has renewed his
commitment to abortion rights.

Speaking on the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion, Obama said the nation needs to find common ground on the abortion debate so "our daughters have the same rights and opportunities as our sons."

Obama said the court case, Roe v. Wade, represented a broader principle that government should not intrude on private family matters. As he issued the statement, anti-abortion rights activists in Washington and around the country held demonstrations.
