MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (AP) - A consultant says when a central Ohio
science teacher was told to remove a Bible from his public school
classroom, he replaced it with another one.
Thomas Herlevi testified Tuesday that John Freshwater said he
checked out the second Bible from the school library to make a statement.
The Mount Vernon school board hired Herlevi's firm to investigate allegations against Freshwater. The resulting reportfound he was insubordinate in failing to remove the Bible and hadused a device to burn the image of a cross onto a student's arm.
Freshwater was subsequently fired in June of last year and is now appealing.
At Tuesday's hearing, a lawyer for the teacher questioned whether the investigator's interviews of witnesses were accurate.
