Manitowoc County Executive Backs Courthouse Display

MANITOWOC, Wis. (AP) - A Wisconsin county's top administrator
says there shouldn't be any problem defending its Nativity scene on
the courthouse lawn from a lawsuit that claims it's
unconstitutional.

The Freedom from Religion Foundation filed suit last month asking a federal court to stop Manitowoc County from "promoting, advancing or endorsing the establishment of religion by public displays of religious symbols." The group contends the Nativity scene violates separation of church and state.

But county Executive Bob Ziegelbauer says county officials believe they have "a very defensible policy, and if called upon to defend it, they will."
