Supreme Court Could Review Exorcism Case

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - A woman who accused her fellow church
members of abuse during a forced exorcism in 1996 has asked the
U.S. Supreme Court to review her case.

Laura Schubert alleged that members of her Assembly of God church held her down for hours when she was 17 in an effort to cast out a demon, bruising her wrists and leaving carpet burns on her back.

But the Texas Supreme Court threw out a jury award she received for her injuries, reasoning that it unconstitutionally drew the court into religious matters.

The U.S. Supreme Court could decide in the next few weeks whether to hear Schubert's appeal.
