President Issues Written, Radio Christmas Messages

WHITE HOUSE (AP) - President Bush says Christmas is a time "to rejoice in the birth of Jesus Christ," who he says was "destined to be the Savior of the world."

In a White House statement, Bush says, "During this season, we
remember Jesus' birth from the Virgin Mary, His justice and mercy
that changed the world, and His ultimate sacrifice for all
people."

The religious written statement is only faintly echoed in the president's radio address, which doesn't mention Jesus by name. Instead, Bush says Christmas is a time "to remember a humble birth that has helped shape the world for more than 2,000 years."
