SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - A religious portrait has been stolen from the altar of the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Sacramento, California.
Police say the alleged bandit seen Friday afternoon on a church
surveillance video appears to be a woman who was wearing shorts, a
dark jacket and a white T-shirt.
The portrait of Our Lady of Guadalupe is worth an estimated $200, but church officials say its sentimental value is much higher. It was placed on the altar for the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Noting that there have been previous thefts from the Cathedral, Monsignor James Murphy observed, "Basically, if it's not tied
down, it's been stolen."
