Gay-rights Group Denies Mob Violence Accusation

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A gay-rights group is responding to an ad
accusing opponents of California's Proposition 8 of waging mob
violence against the Mormon church.

Truth Wins Out had taken out a full-page ad of its own in Thursday's Salt Lake Tribune under the headline, "Lies in the Name of the Lord." It's a response to an ad in last Friday's New York Times about the fallout from passage of California's ban on same-sex marriage.

The Times ad accused opponents of Proposition 8 of waging
"violence and intimidation" against Mormons and others who say their churches have been vandalized because of their support. That
ad was sponsored by The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty and was
signed by several religious leaders, including Rich Cizik of the National Association of Evangelicals and Chuck Colson of the Prison Fellowship.

The director of Truth Wins Out responds that marchers protesting the election result were peacefully "exercising their First Amendment rights."
