New York Couple Leaves $30 million for Diocese

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - The estate of a Binghamton, New York, couple has made another multimillion dollar gift to support the Catholic church.

The Diocese of Syracuse will receive $30 million from the legacy of Robert and Catherine McDevitt.

Robert McDevitt died in September, less than six months after the death of his wife.

Bishop James Moynihan says the diocese will use the money for its annual fundraising campaign, for the education of seminarians and to support clergy, parishes and a Catholic high school.

Last month, the couple's estate donated $50 million to LeMoyne College in Syracuse. It was the largest single gift ever received by the Jesuit school.
