DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A Christian college has staged a musical
drama featuring some of the Bible's least popular stories, the ones
about cannibalism, rape and a bear that mauls children.
"Terror Texts" was first performed at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, in February and came back for an encore this fall, with a final performance last weekend.
Adding to the shocking nature of the stories are the theatrics, with a rock band, a mosh pit and actors decked out in Goth attire.
For a script, theater professor Jeff Barker used the Bible texts from the King James version, with actors speaking each verse word-for-word.
Barker says these "mysterious, dark stories of the Old Testament" bring us "face-to-face with the suffering of the world."
