Clergy Lead Prayers to Avert Foreclosures

WASHINGTON (AP) - In a prayer meeting outside the Treasury Department in Washington, about 40 ministers and 100 congregants
have asked God to prevent Americans from losing their homes.

Rev. Marvin Webb of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Richmond, California, prayed that Congress and Treasury Secretary
Henry Paulson would provide help to Americans who are facing
foreclosure.

Webb is struggling to pay his own mortgage after the interest rate increased on his subprime loan.

As they prayed, Paulson was telling the House Financial Services
Committee that he was reluctant to use the $700 billion bailout pool for mortgage guarantees.
