Washington Churches Hope Obamas Will Attend

WASHINGTON (AP) - Churches in Washington have started extending
invitations to President-elect Barack Obama and his family.

Obama resigned from Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago after inflammatory sermons by Rev. Jeremiah Wright became a campaign issue.

Since winning the election, he has spent Sunday mornings working out in a gym.

Many Washington-area churches hope that will change soon after he enters the White House.

A spokesman for Obama's transition declined to comment on where the first family might worship.

Churches eager to host them include the historic, predominantly black Metropolitan AME Church, and Foundry United Methodist Church,
which the Clintons often attended during their White House years.
