Salem, Mass., Church offers Psalm Readings on Halloween

SALEM, Mass. (AP) - The thousands of people celebrating Halloween today in Salem, Massachusetts, include lots of tourists, some real witches, and members of a church called The Gathering.

Amid the festivities, Pastor Phil Wyman says The Gathering offers Psalm readings, instead of palm readings, and dream interpretations from a biblical perspective.

He says, "We do our best to bless people in the moment and then
send them off happy, yet having experienced some kind of positive
Christian religious experience."

The city notorious for its witch trials and executions in colonial days is now home to many practicing witches, Wiccans and druids. But Wyman isn't spooked by them. Since they're already interested in the supernatural, he says they're often easy to engage in spiritual discussions.
