MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (AP) - The principal of a central Ohio high school says she received complaints that a middle school teacher
now fighting his dismissal was teaching creationism to his students.
Mount Vernon High School Principal Kathy Kasler testified Thursday in the hearing to determine whether 8th grade science teacher John Freshwater will keep his job.
Freshwater is accused of preaching his Christian beliefs in the classroom and using a high-frequency generator to burn the image of a cross on a student's arm.
The Mount Vernon school board voted unanimously in June to fire
Freshwater says the district wants to fire him because he refused to remove a Bible from his desk.
