LOS ANGELES (AP) - Most movies flame out after a few weeks in
theaters. But like the burning bush that wasn't consumed, "Fireproof"
continues to light up the big screen.
In its 5th weekend, the drama starring Kirk Cameron as a firefighter who turns to God to save his marriage earned another $2 million at the box office, making it the weekend's 11th most popular film, according to studio estimates. In earnings per theater, it ranked 6th.
"Fireproof," which was produced for $500,000 by Sherwood
Baptist Church of Albany, Georgia, has earned more than $23 million
But more important, according to its director, Rev. Alex Kendrick, are the testimonies he's receiving of lives that are being changed and marriages that are being saved.
