It's sign up time for Christmas assistance, and this year, there are plenty of applicants for the program. So much that for Anita Howell, she's even had to add more hours of sign ups and more appointments, and that still might not be enough.
"Originally, when we started to do appointments, we had four day sign ups. But, since then, we've had to increase to 10 days of appointments,” Howell says. “Since then, that’s 531 appointments and we've booked all of them."
Anita's husband Jonathan says for organizations and people who are willing to help in trying financial times like the one we are in, it provides more opportunity because there are more people who need help. "It's definitely not negative in the sense that there are people that need help. So, we're able to help more people this year,” he says.
While donations aren't down, one issue the group will have in the upcoming months is last minute sign up, which is scheduled for November 6th and 7th. Those who haven't set up an appointment yet will need to go through that process.
