Preacher Divides Senior Center Members

Plenty of finger pointing and hurt feelings by members of the East Geneva Senior Center in Slocomb on Thursday.

Things reached a boiling point when some members opposed a pastor speaking during center hours. Addie Warren says a senior center is no place for a pastor to preach.

"That pastor tore up the church of ours and now the senior citizens are scattering, they don't have as many people as they did have to start with when this started. it's been rough to tell you the truth "

Johnnie Cox says preaching is not the only problem at the center. He was removed from the board this week and thinks poor decision making bears much of the blame .

“He is was the cause of the churches problems and they say that he is teaching her how to take over the center and that's what she's done is take the center over.”

SARCOA director Robert Crowder met with both sides to help settle their differences.

"I can't come down here and solve these problems, this needs to be between the board and whoever."

Crowder also said federal rules prohibit the preacher from giving sermons during operational hours at the center, but the group is hopeful the issue dividing them could soon be resolved.
