The Dothan Police Department’s 30th annual National Night Out is quickly approaching.
The concept of the National Night Out began in the 1980’s in an effort to heighten awareness and strengthen participation in local anti-crime efforts. The founder of the program believed that a high-impact type of crime prevention event was needed nationally and so began National Night Out, ‘America’s Night out against Crime’.
Last year, on August 4, 2012 the citizen’s of Dothan joined in this national effort to promote police-community partnerships, crime prevention and neighborhood camaraderie. Our community proudly joined 36.7 million people to represent the spirit of our community and determination of our citizens to make our neighborhoods safer places throughout the year.
This year, the Dothan Police Department will once again join forces with the Dothan Fire Department, United States Military, Child Advocacy Center, Target, Dothan Leisure Services, and various other organizations to promote crime and drug prevention throughout the City of Dothan/Houston County. National Night Out is scheduled for Saturday August 3 at the Dothan Civic Center Arena.
